Updating xp to sp2
As many companies have found to their cost, installing security updates can be the difference between a working PC and a desk-sized paperweight.
Thankfully, although Microsoft has long since abandoned support for the operating system, Microsoft is still continuing to develop updates, even if they aren't strictly intended for Windows XP users.
That's not in the cards for everyone, though, so here's how you upgrade from XP to Windows 8 (hopefully).
In Windows XP there are three basic types of user accounts... You must be logged in as an administrative user if you want to install software and change system settings.
Verify your account type (Control Panel-I am also having the same trouble with my dell 8250 xp professional logged on as administrator. Is there a product that will constantly babysit IE?
I also seem to have several problems with IE explorer 6,my family and I use netscape when 6 statrs screwing up. We are on dial-up here, I have tried to keep updated to try at sp2 again,but the larger updates will sometimes take 5 hrs or more. Tried to update my windows xp pro with sp2 disc update I just ordered.
I also shut down all programs and ran advanced system optimizer to clean up registry. If No CD is available - download the files but Save them do not Run them.
Go to Start, All programs, System tools and run System Restore.
